Day 1: Envision

Welcome! Before we get started: if you'd like to learn more about the vision and methods behind 31DoCA, check out our Welcome Post. Otherwise, let's jump in!

Today's Action: Envision the future we're building towards

Today's action is simple: take 3-5 minutes to envision the future you want for the things you love.

1. Start by thinking about what you love and what you are grateful for. (Your family, kids, or grandkids? A favorite winter sport or snorkeling spot? Good wine and coffee? Favorite childhood memories of being outside in nature?)

2. Now think about what a good future on a healing planet looks like for that which you love. Connect this to why you're taking climate action and then write it down. You can make a note in your phone, type it up on your computer, or even just write it on a piece of scrap paper.

For example:

“I’m taking climate action so that my family will thrive in the future." Or "I'm taking steps to address climate change now, so that my grandchildren and all children can have access to clean air, fresh drinking water, and the beauty of nature." Or "I'm taking climate action because I want to enjoy long, powder-filled ski seasons!"

3. Finally, put your note somewhere where you’ll see it or save it on your device, so you can turn to it for inspiration throughout the month.

That's it! Told you it'd be easy!

Why this action? It can be hard to prioritize climate action. We get it; the climate crisis is overwhelming (and sometimes we can barely find time for the basics). But this action--envisioning the future we want--gives us something to build towards. Tying this to what we love reminds us of the urgency of acting now, and provides motivation to continue when the going gets tough.

Did you write it down? Congrats! You just completed Day 1! Can't wait to see you tomorrow for more!
